Why hydrocodone is ideal when coping with chronic pain

There is a stigma against the use of medications such as hydrocodone 10mg because of the popularity of the overdose or addiction scenarios surrounding the drug. But the fact is when patients experience pain for long periods without any sign of relief a strong painkiller is needed to alleviate that pain. How do opioid medications work?

Like other mild painkillers acetaminophen is ineffective when dealing with severe pain. But when combined with the opioid it forms a powerful pain reducing formulation. This stronger formulation is known as hydrocodone apap 5-325 mg. apap stands for acetyl para amino phenol which is the chemical abbreviation for acetaminophen. Now you might be probably wondering as to why I called this formulation ’stronger’? Acetaminophen increases the absorption of the opioid which means that now a greater amount of opioids bind to the pain receptors despite the fact that the concentration remains same. As a result users of this medication will experience a stronger pain protection as compared to medications that are composed of just hydrocodones.

It’s important to understand that opioid medications are not meant for long term use it can be strongly habit forming which means that there can be severe risks of addiction or overdose if they are taken regularly or for long periods.
